Patricia Edwards Shaver is a certified Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) and Distance Credentialed Facilitator (DCF) at My Career Voyage (MCV) in Raleigh, North Carolina, where she provides guidance to career explorers as they chart their course. Shaver developed My Career Voyage so career explorers can obtain the necessary navigation tools to successfully plan and manage their career. Additionally, Shaver is author of My Career Voyage: Charting the Course which is used in MCV workshops or for self-directed use.
Shaver enjoys the mentoring relationships she builds with Jobs For Life (JFL) students and team members at Trinity Baptist Church in Raleigh. Assisting students as they explore careers and learn how to market themselves to potential employers is a small part of what she does. By graduation, students have also removed roadblocks, created a vocational plan, and gained the confidence to achieve their career goals. In addition to mentoring students and semester planning, Shaver facilitates community resource roundtables, leads computer and career workshops, and developed and manages a computer and career resource center where students and mentors can locate career and community resources.
In addition to spending one-on-one time with clients, Shaver enjoys writing about people and their careers. She attempts to capture the passion in their voices as they talk about what motivates them in their chosen vocation. Several of her articles have been published in the Biblical Recorder where she worked as a desktop publisher, and Baptists Today, Ethics Daily, Jobs For Life, and My Career Voyage.
Shaver worked as an employment specialist at the JobLink Career Center in Raleigh, where she helped unemployed clients with resume writing and internet job searches. Recognizing the stress and feelings that accompany job loss, Shaver quickly establishes rapport with clients by helping them relax and feel good about themselves, resulting in smiling faces and productive outcomes.
Shaver has also written career development articles for Career Choices in North Carolina, an annual publication of the State Occupational Information Coordinating Committee (SOICC) where she designed and formatted career development publications targeted to high schools, colleges and career centers across the state.
Shaver and her huband Dennis reside in Raleigh, NC where they enjoy camping, lapidary, and spending time with thier three adult children and grand-children.
