My Career Voyage! Charting The Course

My Career Voyage's (MCV) first re-employment workshop set sail July 20 for a 5-day career planning voyage at Trinity Baptist Church, Raleigh. Career explorers met from 9 a.m.-noon for hands-on training in using self-assessment, career exploration, and job search tools to chart their course. The self-assessment and exploration tools helped participants to better understand themselves and to find occupations of interest. Activities helped voyagers to create important marketing tools to use in job search preparation, networking and presentation during interviews. Patty Edwards Shaver, career development facilitator for My Career Voyage, led the workshop and helped participants individually during afternoon sessions for individual help with resume preparation and career planning.

Many workshop participants brought laptops enabling them to follow along as online material was presented. For those who did not have a laptop, a computer lab with internet access was available.

A second workshop is scheduled for August 17-21.
